Man has used the Soulcem Valley for millennia. From neolithic times, pastoralism began at the same time as the destruction of a sparse forest which covered the flattest areas and consisted mainly of Scots and hooked pines.

Summer pastoralism, around the huts which have taken the form of orris (in dry stone) since the end of the Middle Ages, remained a very dynamic activity until the 20th century.

In the 1980s, a dam was built on one of the old pastoral dishes.

The departmental road to the Carla car park now serves as a pastoral trail and tourist access for walkers and mountaineers.

Many hikes leave for border peaks and high altitude ponds. You will find the descriptions in topos N ° 2 and 3, available in the information offices of the tourist office of the Ariège Pyrenees.
