On its heights, near the Moulines stream, stands the Romanesque church of Verdun, one of the countless churches or chapels that illuminate the valley with the diversity of their forms. Here we find the model on which the Saint-Sernin cathedral in Toulouse was built.
Strongly marked by the mountain character of the population faithful to its pagan cults, Catalan or Toulouse influences, Ariège Romanesque art will satisfy the amateur in search of detail, shapes, styles, simplicity. It's hard not to appreciate its local limestone walls, its rounded base and its stepped roofs under wooden frames covered with slate.
Built by the monks of Cluny who came to settle in Ariège in the 11th and 12th centuries, then owned by the canons of Saint-Volusien de Foix, this marvelous Romanesque testimony still retains all of its period beauty despite the heavy flooding. which caused especially in 1875 great damage and many victims.

The church is regularly open all year round on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - Every day during school holidays.
